I have never driven another Porsche, so I have no comparitor, but I am certain my shifter is quite loose. I became certain when it became nearly impossible to down-shift from 4th to 3rd. If I go through 2nd it slickd right in, but that aint kosher.

When I was in the console, I took the opportunity to check the links therin. Using Haynes (convenient), Clark's Garage, some pages from the factory work manual and the Howto on PelicanParts I decided they are in good shape. There's a little wear, but nothing close to the examples I've seen.

I assume that the parts exposed to the weather and road chemicals are the culprit. I've looked at PET and checked other sources, but I can in no way come up with a list of needed parts.

Any help? Depending on price, it may be as much as a month before I order.

You might just have a worn shift lever. Pretty straight forward to replace. Or this is an excellent fix/mod if you really want to do it up.

Thanks.

the other day - and several others. My shift lever looks OK and no where near as bad as those images.

Also, check in back where it attaches to the tranny. Those bolts can get loose as well.

That's the area I'm getting lost in. What parts do I need, what parts should I want? They aren't always the same list.

I can't see in there well enough. I'll lift it up higher and get some light on the area, but I'm not sure what I should be looking for.

What ever I do to this car needs to be in one day bites. I converted my garage into offices and bedrooms about 10 years ago. Therefore, I am working outdoors, and KC has been seeing rain, or threat of it way more than usual.

Is that the one under the shift lever under the console?

No, what i am saying is that if everything is tight at the linkages and you can't get it in gear, then it is probably due to the rubber center clutch disc coming apart $$$

The transaxle end has one bolt that needs to be checked on the driver's side. 10mm bolt, holds the shifter mechanism to the transmission selector shaft.

Gotcha. Thanks.

The only part of the linkage we've checked its the front. We haven't checked things in the read. I have read Clarks Garage and about 1/2 dozen of other sites. Good reading, but I've yet to check it out.
